Dreaming of getting away from it all and celebrating your love with an elopement or intimate wedding? We have the perfect spot!

Walking down a quiet side-street in the Mallorcan town of Sineu, there seems no indication of a chic boutique hotel lurking behind the heavily-shuttered windows and oak doors.

But this is certainly the right road. And sure enough, a few doors down, a smart townhouse finca comes into view.  Inside there’s riot of colour and texture in the attractive foyer with traditional coloured tiles, small gold and marble tables, rose and sage velvet sofas and armchairs, deep navy paintwork. Giant black and white prints and floral paintings adorn the walls and an enticing bar is bedecked with gleaming glasses and exotic bottles of spirits.

We had heard that this delightful spot was perfect for an elopement or intimate wedding and had come to see for ourselves.

A warm welcome

Hotel-owner Jo greeted us warmly with a refreshing glass of chilled white wine. Out in the courtyard, we took in the pool with its infinity edge as Jo explained how she and husband John had fallen in love with the finca – then in need of major renovation. We were still marveling that this oasis of chic- more Soho House than Mallorca- was tucked away here on an average-looking street.

A short while later, our friends arrived and everything was set for our sleepover house party.

We (slightly guiltily!) nabbed the room with the private rooftop terrace with its own pool. Our rationale was that it was slightly smaller than the others but in reality, we wanted to check it out as a potential space for a vow renewal, elopement wedding or even proposal.

An oasis of chic

The room had dramatic decor, with on-trend black paintwork, oversized statement headboard and black and gold wallpaper. And we were excited to spot a Nespresso coffee machine. Here in Mallorca, the English tradition of providing tea and coffee-making facilities in the room doesn’t exist. And this is a shame, because even the humblest B&B understands that having the wherewithal to make a comforting drink in your own space greatly adds to the feeling of being at home. Jo has a great flair for interior decoration and we were totally won over by her crazy wallpapers,  roomy bathrooms in black and white, paintwork in smart matt grey-greeny-blues and delightfully quirky touches like crazy retro mini-bars disguised as vintage speaker amps.

We ventured out onto the private roof terrace and as the sun set, the small plunge pool looked super-enticing. But dinner beckoned. From the terrace, we had views over the main pool and courtyard below and it was clear that a feast was being prepared.

A gourmet dinner

Hannah, the couple’s daughter and now chef, had created a seven-course tasting menu. We plunged into delicious seasonal dishes such as fresh figs with rocket and parmesan flakes, cod on a bed of creamy risotto, crunchy home-made chicken croquettes and mini fruit meringues with crème brulee.

The evening passed with heaps of anecdotes and knowledgeable discussion about Mallorcan wines with our friends. Afterwards, when we reached our room, we watched the moon rise over the private pool and ventured in for a midnight dip.

The next day, we enjoyed an astoundingly good breakfast with masses of delectable croissants, mouth-watering pastries and artisan breads with fresh juice and steaming coffee. That left precious little room for the scrambled eggs with spicy chorizo which followed but somehow we managed it.

Perfect for intimate weddings, elopements and proposals

Afterwards, Jo showed me the spaces available for small weddings. As well as the roof terrace – perfect for an elopement, vow renewal or intimate wedding- there is a small private paved area at ground level. Just off the main courtyard, it’s perfect for a ceremony with around 20 people. There are three interlinking indoor areas off the pool, suitable for a private dinner and indoor party and as Plan B spaces in case of less-than-perfect weather. There are even friendly neighbours who are relaxed about noise- a rarity indeed!

The hotel is close to a range of other activities including Sineu’s famous market, visits to local vineyards, private wine-tastings, vintage car hire to explore the island and options for many other excursions. The hotel asks for a three-day stay if you wish to celebrate your event there.

Room prices are from €130 per night.
